Roméo et Juliette

...it is the intense light that is constantly concentrated on the artists that creates life and movement // ...det är det intensiva ljusetsom hela tiden koncentreras mot artisterna som skapar liv och rörelse.
Lars-Erik Larsson, Skånska Dagbladet 06/11/2022

Siegfried

Longborough can be something of a handicap chase for even the finest thoroughbreds…It takes a theatrical wizard to break free of its incarceration. For Amy Lane's Ring cycle they've found one… Charlie Morgan Jones is a lighting designer with 22 previous opera credits but he is not yet a well-known name. That will change. Like Alberich he is cunning and resourceful, deft at blurring the scale of the stage with fuzzy boundaries and illusions of depth, adept at plying his craft to conceal or reveal characters…
Mark Valencia, Opera Magazine 13/07/2022

Passion

Charlie Morgan Jones’s painterly lighting is another plus, transforming the limited space with an astonishing precision and mood manipulation.
AJH, AJHLovesTheatre 23/05/2022
The desire is aflame from every corner of the stage, illuminated in a rich, intelligent design by Charlie Morgan Jones…
Francesca Peschier, The Stage 16/05/2022
...ingeniously shrouded in lighting designer Charlie Morgan Jones’s contrasting washes of colour, reflecting the abrupt changes in emotional temperature.
Clive Davis, The Times 11/05/2022
Charlie Morgan Jones’ lighting design magnifies this story with such beautiful and intricate lighting that makes the story unfold with photogenic storybook picture moments, never letting us forget where we are. The minimal set is brought to life by his design that not only navigates us through the locations in the story but adds to the cinematic, epic-romance feel.
James Mac, The Reviews Hub 11/05/2022
Charlie Morgan Jones’ lighting design creates hauntingly beautiful moments where characters only reveal their true thoughts and fears in shadow and darkness.
Richard Bayton, Box Office Radio 11/05/2022
It was the effective and creative lighting which truly made this minimalism work.
Matthew Dougall, Number 9 Reviews 11/05/2022
Charlie Morgan Jones’ atmospheric lighting brings light and shade to the piece.
Nikki Cotter, Opening Night Reviews 11/05/2022
the minimal sets were all amplified by the creative genius of Charlie Morgan Jones, whose lighting design never allows the audience to forget that we are in an Italian warzone.
Jordan Lloyd Beck, Pocket Size Theatre 11/05/2022
The backwall is covered with a vast landscape painting gone to rot. It's blotted with black mould, and brown rust seeps up the base of arches. Charlie Morgan Jones lights it with bleached white or sunset hues, and casts silhouettes against it.
Matt Barton, WhatsOnStage 11/05/2022

The Snow Queen

Charlie Morgan Jones’ impressive lighting design helps to firmly locate each scene, filling the magical land of elves with a warm fireside glow, while the world of humans begins in a bleached-out grey that’s suddenly illuminated by the rippling spectrum of some gorgeously realised northern lights.
Dave Fargnoli, The Stage 16/12/2019
Charlie Morgan Jones' spectacular lighting is atmospheric and dramatic, with beautiful use of smoke and lights to recreate the Northern Lights, as well as a magical feel from Gerda and the Snow Queen's spells.
Aliya Al-Hassan, BroadwayWorld 14/12/2019
Charlie Morgan Jones’ lighting design accentuates the visual allure as the magical Northern Lights flicker overhead, or the Snow Queen’s ice magic projects out in to the audience.
Greg Stewart, Theatre Weekly 13/12/2019

Redd

Visually, Charlie Morgan Jones’s lights provide depth and complexity...
Gabriel Wilding, Hackney Citizen 19/10/2019
... the lighting by Charlie Morgan Jones fades to a foggy amber, while sound levels recede, then pulse forwards...
David Jays, The Sunday Times 06/10/2019
Squares and shafts of light (fabulously designed by Charlie Morgan Jones) pinion him in place as waves of dancers throw themselves around him...
Sarah Crompton, The Observer 06/10/2019
Boy Blue's aesthetically spare, atmospherically lit and ultimately redemptive depiction of depression...
Anna Winter, The Stage 04/10/2019
The show’s other key elements are equally admirable: Charlie Morgan Jones’s moody, sometimes radiant lighting...
Donald Hutera, The Times 30/09/2019
It’s also a much darker work. The central figure is Sandy himself, who begins shut inside a chamber of harsh light on the smoke-filled stage... There’s real pain in these scenes, and skill in both composition and performance.
Sanjoy Roy, The Guardian 29/09/2019
Everything is to a specific beat and no cue is missed. The lights flicker and strobe; we see colours of all kinds. They fade, switch off and blind us - all happening in quick succession to the music. When the show ends the auditorium explodes with applause, and you can see why.
Charlie Wilks, BroadwayWorld 28/09/2019

Das Rheingold

...excellent use of lighting by Charlie Morgan Jones allows such sorcery...
Mark Ronan, The Article 10/06/2019
...lit resourcefully by Charlie Morgan Jones.
Christopher Morley, Midlands Music Reviews 05/06/2019

Avenue Q

The lighting was crisp and fun using LED borders on the windows in transitions to silhouette Avenue Q and add a dash of showbiz to some of the upbeat musical numbers.
Everything Theatre 12/02/2019
Charlie Morgan Jones is the Lighting Designer and he generates a nice, homely ambience to contrast with those big city bright lights.
LondonTheatre1 07/02/2019

The Lady Vanishes

From the opening scenes on the station platform in Austria, through the train journey, back home to Blighty, Morgan Large’s set (coupled with Charlie Morgan Jones’ lighting) manages to conjure up the feel of Hitchcock’s black and white masterpiece.
Lauren Humphries, The Reviews Hub 02/07/2019
A sense of hidden dangers is enhanced by the shadows cast by Charlie Morgan Jones’ lighting design.
Natalie Douglas, The Stage 11/04/2019
Designer Morgan Large almost runs away with providing the star of the show with an atmospheric station set...enhanced by lighting designer Charlie Morgan Jones...
David Guest, The Reviews Hub 12/03/2019
Lighting skilfully echoes the movement of the train as it dashes to the Swiss border; designer Charlie Morgan Jones serves up a gloomy fug in the opening station scene, which becomes claustrophobic when we’re on the train.
CLAIRE WOOD, The Wee Review 22/02/2019
So this classic is easy on the eye. I love Morgan Large’s backdrop of a station (somewhere near Austria). Together with Charlie Morgan Jones’ lighting...it sets the scene perfectly for a good, old-fashioned mystery thriller.
Clare Brotherwood, UK Theatre Network 19/02/2019
Lighting by Charlie Morgan Jones is used to great effect, giving the train ‘movement’ as it flickers through the carriage windows from behind.

A Generous Lover

The Lighting Design was simple but effective and changed with each scene to nudge us visually between characters and locations. There were a few particularly striking moments when La JJ was strongly lit from behind whilst singing...The creative team should be applauded for making something this good! ... La JJ and the creative team have crafted an exceptional piece of theatre.

Gobsmacked!

...brilliantly lit by Charlie Morgan-Jones, this two-act confection will amaze and delight audiences of all ages.
Colin Douglas, Chicago Theatre Review 06/12/2017
...Lighting Designer Charlie Morgan-Jones...creates a basic yet mesmerizingly effective series of eye-popping stimuli to gel with the seriously intense performance happening from the seven members of Gobsmacked. Gladwell has crafted a wall unit that looks like speakers, which Morgan-Jones has lit with a series of blinking patterned and colored lights so that as the volume, rhythm, and overall flow of each musical installment changes, so too does the visual art happening in time with the music.
Amanda N Gunther, Theatre Bloom 25/11/2017

The show wouldn't have been the same experience without the well-thought out colourful set and excellent use of lighting.
Staffordshire Newsletter 21/09/2016
The angles of the scenery and dingy colour scheme contrast with the colourful lighting (by Charlie Morgan Jones) used to compliment the energetic dance numbers, and provide corners which are instantly transformed into dangerous places by carefully cast shadows.
Define Arts 20/09/2016
Charlie Morgan Jones’ lighting design added to the tongue-in-cheek approach with harsh red lighting during the horror scenes along with greens and purples throughout, typical to the science-fiction genre.

Howard Loxton, British Theatre Guide 06/09/2013

Two-Headed

Amy Bonsall’s direction throughout seems tight, but also allows for a little artistic freedom in the dramatic fight scenes between the two girls with Charlie Morgan Jones’s lighting design and Matt Woodward’s original music adding tremendously to the atmosphere.
Paul Lucas-Scott, WhatsOnStage 20/05/2012

Boy In A Dress

The director, crafts an emotional rollercoaster ride of aural and visual synesthesia with the aid of a masterful creative team including Charlie Morgan Jones... ...I sat there in my seat wondering what next stage picture would be painted, what lighting trick would give way to something beautiful...
Andres Ordorica, What's On The Fringe 18/02/2012
The outstanding aspect of the stage design, however, is the lighting, which Charlie Morgan Jones uses sparingly but to great effect. From dressing room mirror-style lighting from within the closet, to cabaret-inspired spotlight and the ingenious blue UV-style lighting of the public toilets—which transforms the space into an eerie, sordid den—Morgan Jones evokes great atmosphere throughout.
