Daniel Anderson

Daniel is a lighting designer for theatre, opera, dance, cultural collaborations, cityscapes, and architecture. He is an Artistic Associate of Black Honey Company, and is the recipient of a Development Grant and an ArtStart Grant from the Australia Council for the Arts. Daniel’s career began in Queensland with commissions from Queensland Theatre Company and La Boite Theatre Company, which earned him a nomination in the inaugural Matilda Awards’ Bille Brown Award for Best Emerging Artist for Bombshells (Queensland Theatre Company) and Tender Napalm (La Boite).

Since then he has lit numerous productions for Queensland Theatre Company including The 7 Stages of Grieving, Oedipus Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, I Am Here, and This Hollow Crown. Daniel’s work with Black Honey Company spans multiple projects including Twelve, Australian Booty, and Who’s That Chik.

Daniel’s other credits include Like A Fishbone, Propelled, Sentinel Chickens (JUTE Theatre Company); Sunsuper Riverfire (Brisbane Festival); Story Bridge Christmas Lighting Display and Story Bridge New Year’s Eve Lighting Display (Brisbane City Council/Brisbane Marketing).  The Theory of Everything (Thomas Quirk/Brisbane Festival); Prehistoric (Elbow Room Productions); A Tender Thing (Brisbane Powerhouse/Full Circle Theatre); He’s Seeing Other People Now (Anna McGahan/Metro Arts), Or Forever Hold Your Peace, and 지하 Underground (Motherboard Productions) that later enjoyed a season in South Korea. 

Daniel also works as an associate/assistant lighting designer. His selected credits include Jasper Jones (Belvoir); The Odd Couple, Head Full of Love, Boston Marriage (Queensland Theatre Company); Deluge: 물의기억 (Motherboard Productions); Cinderella or Goodness Triumphant (Opera Queensland); Freeze Frame, Santos GLNG City of Lights 2011–2013 (Brisbane Festival); Beautiful Noise (Legs on the Wall/Raw Dance Company); and Launch Pad (Expressions Dance Company).
