UKickstart Event 2020 – Live Performance Panel

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On Tuesday 8 September, White Light hosted a panel

discussion dedicated to ‘Re-Opening and Re-Imagining Events from a Live

Performance Perspective’, streamed live from Illuminate at the Science Museum.

This session formed the concluding part of the UKickstart Event 2020, which was

the first UK-wide hybrid gathering of event professionals, to take place post COVID-19

lockdown.

 

 

 

 

 

Chaired by WL’s MD Bryan Raven, the expert

panel included a diverse representation of the events industry, including grassroots

music venues, unique, heritage venues, experiential, festivals and theatres, as

well as larger indoor/outdoor stadiums and arenas.

Bryan Raven – MD, White Light

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bryan Raven is the Managing Director of White Light. He joined the company in 1987 as part of the Hire department when the company had just 17 employees and worked solely in theatre. Over the past thirty years, he has overseen WL’s significant growth, allowing the company to become market-leaders in sectors such as corporate events, broadcast, leisure and education.  

 

 

 

 

 

Bryan is on the Board of directors of National College Creative Industries and Skillscene, an organisation formed to coordinate training activities within the entertainment industry, as well as being a trustee of Theatre Royal Stratford East and Putney Arts Theatre. 

 

 

 

 

 

Adam Blackwood – MD, Private Drama

 

 

 

 

 

A graduate

of RADA, Adam has over 25 years’ experience working in film, theatre,

television and events. He appeared in the West End, worked on TV in Jeeves and

Wooster and for the Disney Channel in Kidnapped and The Old Curiosity Shop

among many others.

 

 

 

 

 

As an event producer he has created opera, ballet,

theatre, musical and circus experiences in Unique Venues in London, chateaux,

hotels, shopping centres and prestigious venues around the world. Having worked

as a professional actor, he has a unique ability to tell authentic stories in

an interactive and unique way.

 

 

 

 

 

Private Drama was founded by Adam in 2001 at the Globe Theatre as an immersive theatrical performance company re-enacting plays for private audiences in intimate settings. He has grown the company into one of the UK’s most renowned and trusted event management businesses, producing large-scale, high-profile events for major companies and charities such as Save the Children, Goldman Sachs, The Prince’s Trust and Deloitte.

 

 

 

 

 

In 2020 he

was also due to work for new clients The Duke of Edinburgh’s International

Award and Belmond on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

 

 

 

 

 

Jon Drape – Director, Engine No 4

 

 

 

 

 

Jon Drape is a Director of Engine No 4, music, festival, and event production specialists. Engine No.4 has been behind two of 2020’s most high profile socially distanced event spaces. The Virgin Money Unity Area and Freight Island, in Newcastle and Manchester retrospectively. In normal times, the company’s summer roster would include Parklife, Kendal Calling, Bluedot, Lost Village, This is Tomorrow and Snowbombing. Jon is a Director of Broadwick Live & Broadwick Venues. He is very proud to be a patron of Attitude is Everything and The Loop. In a former life Jon was Production Manager at The Hacienda in Manchester.

 

 

 

 

 

Nick Wells – Owner, Power Plan Services

 

 

 

 

 

Nick is a qualified chartered engineer and member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, with over 30 years HVAC experience. After a corporate career with Haden Drysys, Philips Semiconductors and Energy Technique, Nick established Power Plan Services in 1995. Nick’s process knowledge, design expertise and pragmatic approach ensure practical and cost-effective solutions to HVAC problems for clients ranging from major airports, West End theatres, pharmaceuticals sites and commercial offices.

 

 

 

 

 

Clara Cullen – Venue Support Manager, Music Venue Trust

 

 

 

 

 

As Venue Support Manager, Clara manages the Music Venues Trust’s Crisis Service. During the Covid-19 pandemic, MVT’s Crisis Service is providing professional support, guidance and urgent crisis funds for grassroots music venues at threat of permanent closure.

 

 

 

 

 

Lisa Hatswell – MD, Unique Venues of London

 

 

 

 

 

Unique Venues of London is a marketing association of over 80 culturally significant buildings and landmarks across Greater London which are available for event hire. For over 27 years, UVL has been at the forefront of London’s venue scene, helping to unlock exceptional spaces in iconic heritage and contemporary locations, each with their own unique character, but all sharing a passion for excellence in events and hospitality for corporate and private guests to experience and enjoy. has been involved with the organisation for 20 years from committee level to director

and the wider events and hospitality industry since 1995, having worked for

prestigious organisations such as Roux Fine Dining, Marco Pierre White, Madame

Tussauds and the London Eye, following her degree in Hospitality Management.

 

 

 

 

 

John Davy – Founder, The Test Box
