White Light provides technical solutions for Battersea Power Station to welcome first residents following £9 billion housing redevelopment

Following 34 years of development plans and a £9 billion regeneration project, Battersea Power Station recently welcomed its very first new homeowners into the Grade II listed building. Woodroffe Bassett Design, who were commissioned to bring the building’s iconic façade to life with projections, engaged technical solutions specialist White Light to supply the technical infrastructure.

To celebrate the occasion, residents enjoyed a special performance from members of the London Symphony Orchestra and a beaming ‘welcome home’ message, projected on the front of the Power Station.

Dominic Yates, WL’s Key Account Manager, comments: “Over three days onsite and despite some challenges with the inclement British summer weather, we installed the technical solutions which included 60 TourPro Aqua Beams in multiple positions around the chimneys and on the roof. The rig was controlled by a Grand MA2 and Luminex system. It was fantastic to see such a striking South London landmark illuminated in this way to mark a historical moment.”  The team of 5 was led onsite by WL’s Senior Project Manager, Martin Strods.

Adam Bassett, Lighting Designer, adds: “Working with Battersea Power Station and the team at Pixel Magic we sought to create a visual statement for the world’s media – executing this was an exercise in simplicity.  The lighting sought to embellish and accentuate the iconic structure with an essence of celebration. Despite the simple design approach, installing temporary lighting on a functioning and complex construction site is never simple – a challenge the team at White Light met with ample determination and success!”
