Biography

Simon started his career in theatre lighting aged 16, joining the Chichester Festival Youth Theatre and getting involved with the technical aspects of their productions. At the age of 18, Simon began his professional career as a full time electrician and 35mm projectionist at the Chichester Festival Theatre. During his time there, he was lucky enough to work alongside (and learn from) some extraordinary British talents in lighting design, such as Mick Hughes, Robert Bryan, and Francis Reid, and also developed his skills as a production electrician and lighting programmer.

After a brief spell at the Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre as Deputy Chief Electrician, Simon started his touring career as Chief Electrician on Blood Brothers in 1998. He then spent a further 12 years on tour as a chief electrician, often re-creating the lighting design in different venues, both in the UK and abroad. Productions included Whistle Down the Wind, The Rocky Horror Show, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,  We Will Rock You, Mary Poppins and the 25th Anniversary Production of Les Miserables.

In 2010, Simon embarked on a freelance career, working as a production electrician on a variety of theatre productions, concerts and events in the UK and abroad. In 2012, he was offered the chance to join the creative team as Associate Lighting Designer for the UK tour of Oliver! Following this, Simon started what has become a long association with the 25th Anniversary Production of Les Miserables, with lighting by Paule Constable and produced by Cameron Mackintosh. Simon has re-created this production as Associate Lighting Designer in the UK and across the world, including Japan, South Korea, Manila, Spain, Dubai, Australia and more recently into the refurbished Sondheim Theatre in London.

Simon is also an associate tutor in lighting at RADA.

Outside of theatre, Simon has a keen interest in aviation, and holds a National Private Pilot License.
