Designer's notes:
Queen Lear was an adaptation of Shakespeare's tragic play King Lear, set on a dying, polluted Earth. The technical team created an immersive, dystopian world using lighting, sound and AV - from industrial hanging florescent FOH lighting and flickering festoon to glowing appliances buried in a sea of rubbish. The lighting was programmed on a ETC EOS with sound & AV programmed in QLab. Multiple screens scattered amongst the rubbish displayed various pieces of video content to aide the storytelling. Large shards of mirror came together to form a blinding Sun in dramatic contrast to the freezing temperatures of the other scenes. Full stage projection mapping was used at the end of the play to highlight the beauty of nature and provide a glimmer of hope for environmental change.
