Biography

Richard works as a Theatre Consultant with Arup where he helps to design and refurbish performance spaces around the world. This includes assisting architects with building planning and design of lighting and other technical systems.

He graduated from Robinson College, Cambridge and trained in Lighting Design at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. His lighting designs have included “Trouble in Tahiti” (Battersea Arts Centre), “L'Elisir d'Amore” (Arts Theatre, Cambridge), “Falstaff” (Covent Garden Festival), “Elgar’s The Spanish Lady” (West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge), “Fool for Love” (RSC Fringe), “Company” (Questors Studio, Ealing), “Gianni Schicchi” (The Place, London), “The Gondoliers” (Minack Theatre).

Prior to theatre consultancy, he worked as a product designer with Strand Lighting, Flying Pig Systems and High End systems, managing development of lighting control, dimming and media server products.

Richard is a past Charirman of the ABTT promoting technical excellence in live performance. He has a particular interest in working with the ABTT safety committee to produce relevant standards and guidance for working practitioners.
