Designer's notes:

The Witch of Blackbird Pond was presented by the Arkansas Children's Theatre as a dramatic adaptation of the novel by Elizabeth George Speare. The show was presented as a series of ''flashbacks'' during testimony in Kit's trial for witchcraft. Both the lighting design and technical directon was performed by me on this production.
The setting for The Witch of Blackbird Pond was designed by Jack Barkla of the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. It was a raked platform with several rolling wagon units that tracked on from both sides of the stage. These wagons depicted various location in the story (e.g. the ''Witch's'' hut and the kitchen of Kit's aunt and uncle
While difficult to see in the photographs, the entire proscenium of the stage was dressed with a framed cornice upon which the words ''And Thy Neighbour As Thyself'' was inscribed. The cyc was framed by a large flown elliptically shaped opening placed behind a black scrim.
At the end of the show when Kit sails off with her new husband, a large sail with front projected rigging shadows was flown in at midstage. As seen in the photographs, the curtain call also took place in front of this sail unit.
