Trui Malten
Biography
Trui Malten is an international theater designer. She designed the lights for more than 140 productions of newly devised plays, classics, opera, musicals and dance. She really enjoys the hands on experience of the experimental productions she has designed, but also the grand scale of the operas she has worked on. Trui has worked extensively abroad: in the USA, Italy, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Rumania and lately in Estonia.
Trui Malten is originally from the Netherlands. She holds an MfA from Yale University where she studied lighting design with Jennifer Tipton. She lived and worked in the US for fourteen- and in Italy for nine years. She now lives in Cambridge, England with her family.
She speaks fluent English, Dutch, Italian and German.
Recent project include: Lighting design for Peter Grimes at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia directed by Willy Decker, conducted by Christopher Franklin, starring Gregory Kunde. Snow White & Beauty and the Beast, by New International Encounter, directed by Alex Byrne. Carmen & Elisir d’Amore with the Cambridge University Opera Society at West Road Concert hall.
She toured extensively as assistant lighting designer to Christophe Forey for the opera Norma, starring Cecilia Bartoli.

Nora, a new choreography by Stina Quagebeur; part of the triple bill She Persisted by the English National Ballet at Saddlers Wells. April 4-13
Breath Control, a performance piece by artist Caroline Wright at the Coronet, London. May 29 - June 1
