Biography

James Knight is a British–German lighting technician and a final-year student on the Production and Technical Arts course at the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

Alongside his training, James has gained professional experience through placements with the lighting departments at major London theatres. During his second year, he completed a placement at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, and in his third year he undertook a placement with the lighting department at The Old Vic. Since February 2025, James has been working as a freelance Lighting Technician at the Lyric Hammersmith, supporting the lighting department across a range of productions and events. Highlights of his work there include Sing Street, Dracula, and the theatre’s 130th Gala.

Through both his professional work and training at LAMDA, James continues to develop his practice in theatrical lighting, with a focus on supporting the technical and creative processes that bring live performance to the stage.
