Callum Foy
Biography
I am a multi-skilled technical theatre practitioner with a primary interest in lighting and stage management. Who is particularly passionate about supporting the development of the next generation of industry professionals. Through my own studies, I have experienced first-hand how challenging it can be for students to access high-level work experience within venues, productions, or with individual practitioners. Having been fortunate to receive guidance and opportunities from supportive industry professionals, I am keen to explore ways of helping to open up similar opportunities to more students as my career develops.
I have completed several work placements on large-scale productions, and the experience of working backstage and being part of a live production environment has reinforced my ambition to work on touring shows in the near future. The roles that interest me most include Technical Swing, due to the opportunity to work across departments and apply a wide range of technical knowledge; Lighting Technician, which allows me to focus on my core passion; Lighting Programmer, where I can engage with the technical and problem-solving aspects of show creation; and Stage Manager, a role I value for its central position within a production and its collaborative, decision-making responsibilities.
I am currently studying Technical Theatre at the University of Salford, where I am gaining experience across all areas of production, including both technical and management disciplines. My technical skillset includes advanced knowledge of ETC Eos lighting software, Capture Visualiser, and SketchUp, alongside a working understanding of ChamSys systems. I am also confident using industry-standard tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Alongside my technical abilities, I bring strong communication, problem-solving, time management, and teamwork skills to every project. I thrive in collaborative environments and value the contribution of every team member. Furthermore, I am known for maintaining a positive and professional attitude, supporting others during challenging periods, and helping to foster an enjoyable yet focused working environment—qualities I believe are especially important within touring and high-pressure production settings.
