Around the Tradeshow Floor – PLASA Focus Leeds

By Leo Humphrey, Sales Key Account Manager.

Held at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, PLASA Focus was the second in a run of shows all taking place in short succession (the other being Prolight and Sound). PLASA Focus is a particularly important show in the UK as it  allows regional attendees access to the latest products and manufacturers; reminding a still very London-based industry that there is life North of Watford!

Having made its UK debut at the ALPD & WL New Technology Showcase back in January, the GLP X5 was now making its UK tradeshow debut in Leeds. The GLP X5 is an expansion and upgrade to the popular X4, featuring a 3.6-60degree zoom range and set-up via NFC. The 19 x 40W LEDs produce 12500 lumens, making the X5 perfect in many Live events applications.

Also on display was the GLP X5 IP Bar which, as expected, is an IP65 linear tilting head to match the X5 Wash, bringing the output levels of X5 to the X4 bar form factor. Expected to be fully available later this year, the X5 IP Bar is just at home indoors as it is outside. A much-welcomed feature is that its IP rating protects the unit from Confetti, smoke fluid residue, glitter and even pyro dust!

Similarly, it was great to see the work-in-progress T11 Followspot from ROBE being previewed once again, following its appearance at PL&S. It looks to have some interesting features, and I’m excited to see more as they move towards an official release.

The new Martin ELP PAR, (which replaces the now discontinued Rush PAR2), provides a suitable partner to the ELP Profile, delivering RGBW Colour Mixing, with unprecedented lumen output, high-intensity narrow zoom, full-gamut colour calibration and smart rigging and control features.

Also on display was the Martin ERA 150 Wash moving-head LED wash fixture, providing class-leading lumen output, high-intensity narrow zoom and full-gamut colour calibration for accurate colour reproduction and colour temperature control. All of this makes it an incredibly versatile yet affordable workhorse lighting solution for rentals, installs and touring.

The ETC High End Lonestar, the versatile and affordable lighting tool built for designers and programmers who want maximum performance from a mid-sized automated framing fixture, was also at PLASA Leeds. The budget friendly luminaire brings punchy output, a professional feature set, and ETC’s legendary quality at a new, more affordable price point.

Joining the Lonestar on the ETC stand was the ETC Source Four LED, Series 3. This fixture features the X8 LED Array and XDLT Lens Tube, delivers brightness from every distance, as well as colour and control for the most efficient workflow. Like all ETC fixtures, Series 3 is backed by an unmatched industry warranty.

Speaking of fixture control, the cmd_key from High Output is a 125 key keyboard that is programmed and ready to take with you on your next ETC EOS Family programming gig. With a near identical layout to the current EOS Family Consoles from ETC, the cmd_key allows users to easily switch from full-sized desks to portable or secondary ones, without having to re-learn the mapping of the keys. With “silent” Cherry MX Black keys that are mounted on a steel frame in a small form factor, the cmd_key give users a tool for when they do not have the space or the need for a full-sized console but still want to maintain the professionalism and productivity of having an actual desk.
