TheatreCraft is the UK’s largest free careers event for anyone aged 16-30 seeking off-stage roles in theatre. It allows attendees to network with employers and industry professionals in the live marketplace, as well as take part in off-stage Q&As, workshops and panel talks in person. This year’s event took place on Monday 20th November at the Royal Opera House and was attended by over 1,000 young people.

White Light (WL), a d&b solutions company, was a sponsor of this year’s event as well as an exhibitor. The company has a proven history of supporting and nurturing the next generation of industry talent, hence why being part of TheatreCraft is so important. The stand this year was actually staffed by the latest cohort of WL’s award-winning Apprenticeship scheme, who shared with students their experience of the programme, what they’ve learned so far and the application process.

Alongside this, WL’s Business Development Manager Stuart Porter led the workshop ‘Routes to a Career in Lighting’. Drawing on Stuart’s years of experience in a plethora of lighting roles, the seminar explained the basics of what theatre lighting is, the different types of equipment used, the various areas of employment as well as routes into the industry. It was incredibly well attended and received so a big thanks to everyone who came along!

Stuart comments: “TheatreCraft is such an vital event for our industry as it allows the next generation a much-needed insight into the various resources available and the paths they may be able to take. It’s all about encouraging and making sure everything is completely accessible – something we always strive to do at WL. We were delighted with the response we received both on our stand and during the workshop and cannot wait to see those that we spoke to take their first steps into their technical careers”.
